Jack (John Woolf) O'Connor was born in Nogales, Arizona, on January 22, 1902. He spent his formative years in Tempe, Arizona; in December 1917, at the age of 15, he enlisted in the U. S. Army. Owing to a slight case of tuberculosis he was discharged from the 158th Infantry Regiment in late January 1918.
